Home Staging

My biggest distraction lately has been selling our townhouse and looking for a new house. We've only had four years to collect clutter in our current home so the cleanup process hasn't been too brutal. Our biggest project was to depersonalize.

It took me two years to collect all the frames and pictures around our home and lots of help from my family to hang them all. A few weeks ago I took them all down, spackling up the holes, and repainting the walls. It was a sad day, but soon they will be hanging up in our new home. Here is our old wall of fame, otherwise referred to as our wall of shame.

We had our open house and are now in the middle of multiple showings. Before each showing, we have a checklist we like to follow.
Kitchen
  • Remove appliances like the toaster or coffee maker
  • Wipe down the counters
  • Take out the trash
  • Clean out the sink
  • Organize the cabinets - remember, people like to open anything that has a handle on it!
Bedrooms
  • Make the bed
  • Organize the closet
  • Put away any personal items
  • Clear off your nightstands
Bathrooms
  • Take everything off the bathroom countertop, no one wants to see your toothbrush!
  • Put out fresh towels or buy a new set and only use them for showings
  • Clean and close the toilet seat
  • Empty the trash cans
Foyer

  • Clean up the pile of mail, magazines, or newspapers
  • Remove any shoes

General
  • Vacuum
  • Dust
  • Pets - remove all supplies, hide the water/food bowl and cute dog or cat bed you probably own
  • Invest in air fresheners
  • Buy flowers - not a necessity, but a nice addition to your home
  • Open every window treatment
  • Turn on every light

GOOD LUCK SELLING YOUR HOME
